Join Great River Greening to celebrate National Public Lands Day. As part of this year let's get “Together for Tomorrow” celebration, we will plant mast-bearing shrubs, into a meadow opening at Camp Ripley’s Ruffed Grouse Management Area (RGMA).
This will be at the South unit/parking lot. These plantings will provide an important food source for ruffed grouse, American Woodcock, Wild Turkey, and other game and non-game wildlife, including pollinators. The planting density and design has been carefully laid out for ideal spacing between thickets.
Four volunteers will have an opportunity to win fishing poles!
National Public Lands Day has been celebrated for more than 25 years. It is a day where huge impacts are made by volunteers all across the country to improve and enjoy forests and grasslands. These volunteer contributions are incredibly valuable to public lands. Thank you for making a difference in conservation while enjoying a rewarding day in nature.
This is a family-friendly event. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary, we will provide training required.
Join us on the celebration and have the opportunity to:
- Meet Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists.
- Get oriented to the RGMA trails and learn about the plan for the planting site and beyond.
Lunch will be provided. There will also be light snacks and extra water available during the event. Please bring your own reusable water bottle. In addition, bring your work/gardening gloves if you have them, if not they will be provided.
Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before the starting time.
