JOB DESCRIPTION: Shelter Support Advocate Location: Anna Marie’s Alliance Responsible to (supervisor): Victoria Evens, Volunteer Coordinator

Purpose:  

Shelter support advocates provide support to individuals and families escaping domestic violence by staffing the front desk of the advocate’s office. Shelter support advocates answer and direct phone calls, monitor entrance to the shelter, assist residents with various requests, and provide support to families seeking safety at Anna Marie’s Alliance. Shelter support advocate volunteers work alongside shelter staff to ensure timely response to residents’ needs.

Responsibilities: 

1.       Answer and direct phone calls.

2.       Staff the front desk.

3.       Monitor front door.

4.       Interact on a casual support basis with residents and children. 

5.       Basic office support.

6.       Documentation of outgoing donations.

7.       Perform related duties as assigned.

8.       Maintain confidentiality.

9.       Arrive on time for commitments.

10.     Log hours using VicTouch in the advocate’s office.

11.     Wear your name tag during the shift.

Requirements:   

1.       Excellent interpersonal communications skills.

2.       Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

3.       Uneventful driving record.

4.       Pass a Criminal Background Check.  

5.       Ability to work well with people from diverse racial, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.

6.       Ability to work independently and as a team.

7.       Detail oriented.

8.       Belief in non-violence.

9.       Self starter.

10.     Valid MN driver’s license and current auto insurance.

Responsibilities: 

1.    Clear Snow from sidewalks and entry ways in a timely manner.

2.    Salt Sidewalks.

3.    Mow property (at AMA and Transitional House).

4.    Water gardens, container plants, etc. (at AMA and Transitional House).

5.    Rake leaves.

6.    Trim Hedges.

7.    Communicate need for any equipment maintenance/repair.

8.    Perform related duties as assigned.

9.    Maintain confidentiality.

10.  Arrive on time for commitments.

11.  Log hours using VicTouch in the advocate’s office.

12.  Wear your name tag during the shift.
